Individual Treatment
Individualized, client directed treatment is provided to youth to assist them in exploring the underlying reasons for engaging in substance use, in reducing or discontinuing use, relapse prevention and/or referral to residential treatment, and includes comprehensive education about the risks related to youth substance use. Parents/caregivers and other family members (as defined by the youth) are encouraged to participate in the youth’s treatment.
Secondary School-on-site Treatment
On-site treatment and family support is provided at a number of secondary schools within the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board and the Hamilton Wentworth Catholic District School Board. Contact us for further information.
Getting Ready Education Group
This 3-5 session group includes substance education, exploration of reasons youth engage in substance use, development of healthy coping strategies and decision making. This group may be offered in secondary schools and other youth serving agencies.
Family & Allies Connection & Education (FACE)
Consultation/counselling/education services are provided to family members and allies, ranging from telephone consultation or 1:1 support, to a continuous intake multi-session education, support and skills development group. These services are open to any parent, caregiver, or ally whose youth is engaging in substance use, the youth doesn’t have to be involved with AY for families and allies to access these services. Youth Affected by Substance Use of Others
Treatment is provided for youth whose lives have been negatively affected by the substance use of their parents, guardians or other family members (parents, siblings, caregivers) and/or significant others as defined by the youth.
Street-Involved Youth Outreach
Youth who are street-involved or who are at risk of homelessness are at greater risk for substance use and other related risks. In addition to having access to AY services at our main office, outreach services are provided in collaboration with other agency members of the Street Involved Youth Planning Collaborative.
Pregnant and Parenting Youth Outreach
AY provides treatment services for youth who are concerned about their substance use and who are pregnant or parenting a child at our main office, as well as in schools and community organizations where AY provides on-site service delivery.
Community Education, Consultation & Training
AY is pleased to provide consultation and training on youth substance use to our community partner organizations.
Harm Reduction Supplies
As part of the City of Hamilton’s role in provincial expansion of community harm reduction supply distribution to those at risk of opioid overdose, trained members of the AY team have the capacity to train and distribute the following kits to clients and their family/friends in the Hamilton community.
